So after the weekend I have received some good responses to how people set their priorities. One of the best answers I heard to the questions from Veronica was "God would want you to do your homework too." Which I loved and it is also very true. Just as our earthly moms and dads want the best for their children, so does our Heavenly Father. And who does not want their loved ones to be a success?
You see if we set God as our top priority then everything else will fall into place. Let me give you a few examples of this.
First we have God, and because we have God and his love we are now able to care for our families as he cares for us which is my second priority.
(Luke 11:11-13 NIV) "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a sname instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are ecil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who asks him!"
Of course we will provide for our children! Which one of us would let our child starve while we feast? Now in this world we need money to provide for our families, and to get money we have to work in some form.
Even St. Paul worked for the food he and his entourage ate.
(2 Thessalonians 3 6-10) In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”
And if you look up the rest of that chapter you will find out that he goes on to tell the people of Thessalonica that they need to work for what they eat because if they are idle then they are being disruptive, but to still treat them as fellow believers. Now this does not include people who are down on their luck, or sick, or unable to work. We are still to care for them.
So far we have covered my top three priorities, first is God, second is family, and third is work, the last thing on my list would have to be fun and lesiure.
Funny if you look at the list you will see that if you place God as your first priority he covers the rest for you.
Thank you and God Bless.
